Slopes are one of those landscape problems that most people just live with. They're hard to mow, prone to erosion, and when they're bare or patchy, they pull down the whole look of the property. That's exactly what we were dealing with here - a long hillside that needed a real solution, not just a band-aid.

We planted 25 junipers across the slope and then topped everything with a fresh layer of pine straw. That combination does a few things at once. The junipers will spread and root in over time, anchoring the soil and naturally suppressing weeds as they fill out. The pine straw works immediately - it holds moisture, slows runoff, and gives the whole area a clean, finished look from day one.

Pine straw is genuinely one of the best mulch options for sloped ground. Unlike shredded wood mulch that can wash or shift, pine straw locks together and stays put even on a grade. It also breaks down slowly, which means it keeps doing its job longer between applications. For a slope like this one, it's the right call.

What we ended up with is a slope that actually looks intentional. The retaining wall border at the base frames everything neatly, and the uniform pine straw coverage gives it that well-kept appearance without requiring a ton of ongoing maintenance. Small jobs like this have a bigger impact on curb appeal than most people expect.
